OUR COMPANY

Archimedes was a renowned mathematician and physicist from Greek antiquity. Not only did Archimedes refine principles of leverage, famously stating, “Give me a place to stand on, and I will move the Earth,” but he discovered the “Archimedes Principle,” a principle of buoyancy commonly used in contemporary physics.

Emerging from the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, Archimedes Asset Management, Inc. (“AAM”), was formed with Archimedes’s influences in mind – tempering leverage with buoyancy in real estate investments, AAM employs disciplined investment analysis and rigorous asset management, preparing daily for the next investment cycle.

Today, AAM is a real estate investment company providing asset management and investment management for all types of multi-family and agricultural assets.


OUR FOCUS

Operating primarily in California’s central valley, we seek distressed assets in which we see untapped growth potential. Our portfolio includes conventional multi-family housing, affordable (LIHTC) housing, agricultural, and conservation easements.


Housing

With a 7.2 million unit shortfall, the US affordable housing market is vastly underserved. For more than a decade, AAM has worked to improve affordable housing opportunities in California’s central valley. We specialize in identifying under-performing assets in key markets poised for stable, long-term growth.

Feeding

Given the increasing importance of California’s contribution to food security at regional, national, and global scales, we have sought to both increase and diversify our agricultural holdings.

Preserving

At AAM, we know that the well-being of all life is currently threatened by a growing number of environmental problems, including climate change, pollution, and loss of biodiversity. We are doing our part to implement sustainable business practices throughout our value chain to reduce the environmental impact of our investments.


OUR TRACK RECORD

Since around 2010, Archimedes Asset Management, Inc., and its affiliates, have successfully completed over fifty (50) real estate transactions. In the multi-family setting, these transaction have included partnerships with or approvals from: California Tax Credit Allocation Committee (“CTCAC”), the California Housing Finance Agency (“CalHFA”), the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (“HUD”), the California Statewide Communities Development Authority (“CSCDA”) and several local Housing Authorities. In agriculture, we have purchased farmland and rangeland with a wide range of crops, topography, water, infrastructure, conservation easements, and mineral rights.

Our typical transaction size is from $5mm – $25mm, with countless exceptions.


Investment Philosophy

In the multi-family setting, AAM focuses on opportunistic and value-add real estate located in secondary and tertiary markets with strong catalysts for growth. AAM identifies its target markets using conventional “top-down” analytics, with an emphasis on population and job growth.

As our namesake, Archimedes, implies, AAM marries the principles of leverage and buoyancy for superior risk-adjusted returns. AAM is acutely aware of the cyclical nature of real estate investing and we vary our hold time accordingly, generally favoring a long-term, low-leverage strategy. We seek to achieve superior returns by correcting management inefficiencies as opposed to leveraging our asset base. Due to our conservative approach, we strive to achieve risk-adjusted returns equal or greater to the returns of many “absolute return” business models.
